Valenzuela LGU cancels vaccination due to incessant rains

The local government of Valenzuela City suspended all inoculation activities in vaccination sites within the locality on Sunday as the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) continues to bring rains over Metro Manila and nearby areas.

"Mangyaring maghintay sa mga susunod na anunsyo mula sa pamahalaang lokal ukol sa bagong schedule," read the tweet from the verified Valenzuela government account.

In a separate tweet, Valenzuela City Mayor Rex Gatchalian said their vaccination will be further suspended on Monday, July 26, due to the strong winds and rains.

Navotas also suspended inoculations in all its sites on July 25 and July 26 because of numerous flooded areas. It said it will also reschedule vaccinations for first and second doses of the COVID-19 vaccines.

So far, there were no announcements of cancellation of vaccination yet from other local government units within the metropolis.

But on Saturday, Quezon City and Marikina City evacuated their affected constituents to be safe from flooding and landslides.

Malabon Mayor Lenlen Oreta on Sunday also issued flood advisories within his city amid the monsoon rains.

State weather bureau PAGASA earlier warned that monsoon rains, enhanced by Typhoon In-Fa and Tropical Storm Nepartak, will be experienced in Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Abra, Benguet, Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, and Calamian Islands on Sunday.

In a briefing on Saturday, President Rodrigo Duterte expressed frustration over local government units making people wait in line under the rain and in flooded areas to get vaccinated versus COVID-19. —Consuelo Marquez/KG, GMA News
