Isko Moreno proud of Manila residents who queued in the rain

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno on Monday said he is proud of Manila residents who lined up for their COVID-19 vaccination despite the inclement weather last week.

Moreno made the remark after Duterte earlier in the day reiterated his call for local government units not to make people wait in line under the rain just to get their COVID-19 vaccines.

"Well, that's a good observation but I'm grateful. I'm proud of mga batang Maynila bagama't nagbabaha talaga ay talagang 'yong kagustuhan nilang maproteksiyunan," the mayor said in a report on "24 Oras."

During his final State of the Nation Address, Duterte said LGUs should find a gymnasium or a school instead.

"'Di ko maintindihan bakit gawin mo 'yan sa mga Pilipino... Sa totoo lang hindi naman ako nagyayabang. I'm just an ordinary Filipino citizen just like you. I get hurt when people are nearly brutalized," the President said.

"The Filipino does not deserve this even if they are not paying taxes because the theory of government is that all money belongs to the people and the money is there and it belongs to all of us and it should be used for public good. But what is the use of public good if you are not good and stupid," he added.

Moreno, meanwhile, said the city government will not stop vaccinating its citizens despite tirades from some individuals.

"Hindi tayo titigil lalo na nakaka-inspire ang taong bayan. Gusto nila mabakunahan," he said.

"Dahil kami binibigyan niyo ng baterya, 'wag kayo mag-alala, hindi rin kami papatinig sa mga ngawa at kyaw-kyaw ng iilan," Moreno added.

Despite the foul weather last week, people still lined up in various inoculation sites in Metro Manila, including Manila and Mandaluyong, to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
