Public transportation to remain during ECQ —DOTr

Public transportation in the National Capital Region will remain during the enhanced community quarantine from August 6 to 20, the Department of Transportation (DoTr) said.

The leadership of the agency recommended to retain the current supply and capacity of public transport in the capital region amid the strict lockdown,  DoTr Assistant Secretary Goddes Libiran said.

Libiran said restrictions, however, will be applied on passengers such as stricter enforcement to ensure that only authorized persons outside of their residence are permitted to use public transport, as mandated by the Inter-Agency Task Force.

"But, whatever the decision of IATF will be, we will abide," she added.

During the first ECQ implementation in NCR on March 16 to May 14, 2020, public transportation was prohibited.

When NCR was again placed under ECQ from March 29 to April 11, 2021, workers in essential and non-essential sectors were allowed to physically report to work and public transportation was made available under limited capacity.
