The Philippine Red Cross' emergency field hospitals (EFH at the National Kidney Transplant Institute and the Lung Center of the Philippines in Quezon City are both nearing full capacity, Senator Richard Gordon said on Tuesday.

Gordon said he had ordered the deployment of 100-bed capacity at LCP and 20-bed-capacity at NKTI as Metro Manila recorded a spike in COVID-19 cases.

"We are in a war situation against COVID-19. The health care system in the NCR plus region is challenged due to the increasing cases of covid-positive individuals," Gordon said.

"Through the emergency field hospitals of the Red Cross, this will help serve more patients needing immediate health care," he added.

More medical tents and emergency field hospitals may be deployed by PRC if cases continue to rise, Gordon also said.

Metro Manila is currently under an enhanced community quarantine until Aug. 20 to allow local government units and the national government to suppress the spread of the highly contagious Delta variant in the communities. —NB, GMA News
