The National Capital Region (NCR) averaged nearly 3,300 new COVID-19 cases over the past seven days, with some local government units (LGUs) experiencing rapid growth rates, the OCTA Research group reported on Monday.

In its latest monitoring report, OCTA said the NCR averaged 3,262 new cases each day from August 9 to 15, up 51% from the previous week.

“Rapid one-week growth rates were observed in Navotas (up 98%), Caloocan (80%), Muntinlupa (74%), Mandaluyong (65%), Quezon City (59%), Manila (58%), Marikina (56%), Las Piñas (51%), and Valenzuela (50%),” the research group said.

The positivity rate was at 20%, while the average daily attack rate (ADAR) was 23.36 per 100,000 population, which puts the region under the high-risk classification.

Twelve out of 17 LGUs were at a critical level in terms of ADAR. These included Navotas, Makati, Pateros, San Juan, Pasay, Muntinlupa, Mandaluyong, Valenzuela, Parañaque, Malabon, Pasig, and Las Piñas.

Seven LGUs had hospital and ICU occupancy for COVID-19 cases above 70%: Makati, Pateros, San Juan, Pasay, Las Piñas, Taguig, and Quezon City.

The NCR is currently under an enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), which is the strictest level of COVID-19 curbs, amid the threat of the highly contagious Delta variant.

The ECQ in Metro Manila took effect on August 6. It will expire on August 20 unless further extended by the national government. — Virgil Lopez/DVM, GMA News
