Marikina mayor calls for collaboration in vaccination among NCR Plus LGUs

Marikina City Mayor Marcelino Teodoro on Thursday called for collaboration in vaccination among the local government units in the National Capital Region Plus to achieve herd immunity in the region.

At the Palace briefing, Teodoro added that the city government is just waiting for the policy on this initiative from the National Vaccination Operations Center.

“We're waiting for the policy of National Vaccine Operations Center para talaga makatulong po ang lahat (so all could help) and we could create herd immunity not only for Marikina and the whole Metro Manila, but also for the nearby areas,” he said.

Teodoro said the Marikina government made a commitment to the National Vaccine Operations Center that the LGU could help in the inoculation of residents of nearby towns and cities.

He pointed out that the daylight population or the people who regularly go to Metro Manila for work, school, and trade should also be covered by the vaccination efforts by the NCR LGUs.

The government is eyeing to vaccinate 58 million people in highly urbanized areas by the end of the year to achieve herd immunity amid limited COVID-19 vaccine supply.

To reach herd immunity, the country has to inoculate 70% to 80% of its 109 million population.

As of Wednesday, 29,127,240 vaccines have been administered in the country—16,250,043 are first doses while 12,877,197 are second doses, presidential spokesperson Secretary Harry Roque said. -MDM, GMA News
