1,000 Malabon trike and padyak drivers receive P2,500 for transport service

Around 1,000 tricycle and padyak drivers in Malabon received P2,500 in exchange for providing transport service and mobility to the community amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

According to the local government, the transportation was mainly used in delivering relief goods, distributing cash aid, and providing transportation for residents going to the vaccination center.

“Buhay na buhay ang Bayanihang Malabonian sa gitna ng pandemya dahil sa mga ganitong klaseng programa,” Councilor Jose Lorenzo Oreta, the program leader, said in a statement.

(The bayanihan spirit among Malabonians is very much alive amid the pandemic due to these kinds of programs.)

“Bukod sa pag-iwas na magkahawaan sa virus ay binibigyan din natin ang ating mga tricycle at padyak drivers ng pagkakataong ipagpatuloy ang kanilang pag-asenso dahil suportado ang kanilang kabuhayan,” he added.

(Apart from avoiding virus transmission, we are also able to give our fellow padyak and tricycle drivers a chance to continue their source of livelihood.)

A tricycle driver also expressed gratitude to the program.

“Napakalaking tulong ng programang ito sa aming kabuhayan lalo na bawas talaga ang mga lumalabas ng kanilang mga bahay sa panahon ngayon,” Tomas Aniceto said, adding that it felt good to help others amid the pandemic.
