Manila opens some vaccination sites to walk-in vaccinees, even to non-residents

Some vaccination sites in the City of Manila have been opened on Wednesday for walk-in vaccinees, even those who are non-residents.

On Wednesday, a group of residents from Carmona, Cavite were seen lining up outside a mall in Manila to get a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, according to a report by Mai Bermudez on GMA News' Unang Balita.

The residents said they signed up for vaccination in their area but they have yet to receive an advisory regarding their inoculation schedule.

They added that they want to get vaccinated already against COVID-19 since they face the risk of contracting the illness as they go about their day-to-day activities.

The Manila city government said walk-in vaccinees will be accepted in 45 health centers in six districts on Wednesday, as well as in four mall sites, but only for the first dose of vaccines.

The vaccination will be given to those belonging to the A1 (healthcare workers), A2 (senior citizens), A3 (persons with co-morbidities), A4 (economic frontliners), and A5 (indigents) priority groups from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The health centers were each allotted 1,500 first dose vaccines for the day, while the mall sites have 1,000 first dose vaccines each.

Those who are scheduled for second dose however need to follow the schedule they received.

Meanwhile, no walk-in will be allowed at the drive-thru vaccination site at the Quirino Grandstand. Those who would like to get vaccinated at the drive-thru site need to sign up first at the Manila CoVax site.

According to the Manila Health Department, as of August 31, 8 p.m., 1,261,698 individuals have been vaccinated against COVID-19 in the city.

Meanwhile, a total of 1,990,614 vaccines have been administered.

Manila allowed walk-in vaccinations before, but stopped it due to disorderly queues in some vaccination sites.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in Manila as of August 31 reached 76,224.

Of this number, 1,672 are active; 73,124 recovered; and 1,428 died.
