Theft from truck stuck in traffic caught on video

Two persons were caught on video stealing from a truck that was stuck in traffic along Road 10 and Capulong Street in Manila on Friday evening.

According to Jun Veneracion’s report on “24 Oras,” the suspects managed to steal a tube used to make replacing tires easier.

The video was taken by "Toto," not his real name, the passenger in the vehicle behind the truck.

“Gulat na gulat ako kasi first time ko rin po makakita, babae pa po ‘yung nagnanakaw. Ang lakas po ng loob,” Toto said.

(I was surprised to see that a woman was stealing from the truck. She is brave.)

However, he said he was unable to help the driver of the truck in fear that they would turn on him.

“‘Yung mga ugali ng mga tao doon kapag binusinahan mo, tinulungan mo ‘yung ninanakawan, ikaw ang aanuhin. Puwedeng batuhin ‘yung windshield mo, paluin ‘yung side mirror mo,” he said.

(The attitude of some people if you honk at them as a warning that they are already being robbed, they are the ones who get mad. They could hit your windshield or your side mirror.)

Another driver also attested to the presence of thieves in the area.

“Kapag nag stop kailangan nakasarado ang bintana, naka-lock,” he advised.

(At the stop sign, make sure to close your window and lock your door.)

Residents said that most of the thieving incidents occur at night. However, there are instances when robbers strike even during the day.

“Ginagampanan naman po namin ng barangay. Marami na po kaming nahuli dito,” Jaime Solano, a barangay tanod, said.

(We are doing our job. We already caught several thieves here.)

The Manila Police District (MPD) has started investigating the latest incident.

“Tawag nga natin dito, termites ng lansangan. Sinisigurado natin hindi magtatagal mahuhuli natin itong mga to,” MPD spokesman Police Captain Philipp Ines said.

(We call them termites of the streets. We will make sure that they will be arrested soon.) -- Consuelo Marquez/BAP, GMA News
