Cellphone for online classes snatched by ‘delivery rider’

A 13-year-old student can no longer attend her online classes after losing her cellphone to a snatcher posing as delivery rider.

According to Emil Sumangil’s report on “24 Oras,” the victim was walking home in Barangay Guadalupe Nuevo when a motorcycle rider stopped beside her to ask for directions.

“Noong una, nagtanong sa kanya tapos po, saan daw po papuntang BGC. Tapos sumagot ‘yung anak ko, na itinuro pa ang way papunta sa kabila,” the mother of the victim said.

Though the student quickly walked away, the rider tailed her and snatched the phone she was holding before driving off.

The student attempted to run after the rider who sped away.

“Nung umuwi siya, iyak nang iyak, akala namin nabastos po,” the mother said.

The student’s mother had saved up for the cellphone for her studies.

“Na-trauma po siya. Hindi po nakalabas ng bahay tatlong araw. Tapos  napapaniginipan niya po,” the mother said.

The suspect was riding a motorcycle with a logo of a transportation and delivery company.

GMA News has reached out to the company for comment.

The victim has yet to file charges against the suspect.

The Makati Police said they are conducting a follow-up investigation.

“Paalala lang natin sa ating publiko, pag pumupunta sa matataong lugar ay maging maingat at alisto lalo na sa darating na holiday season. Asahan po natin na maraming taong gumawa ng krimen,” PCP commander Police Captain Edison Mabaet said.—Joahna Lei Casilao/LDF, GMA News
