Abalos: 63% of target population in NCR fully vaccinated against COVID-19

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Friday announced that more than 6.2 million residents of the National Capital Region (NCR) have been fully vaccinated against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

In a radio interview, MMDA chair Benhur Abalos Jr. said 14.6 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been distributed among the region’s 9.8 million eligible population.

“Sa 9.8M na ito ay nakaka 14,682,000 doses na tayo sa Metro Manila. Kung i-break down mo ito, ‘yung first dose ay 8,437,000, which is 86%, at ‘yung nakadalawang dose ay kulang-kulang 6.2 million, which is 63%,” he said.

[Of the 9.8, we have distributed 14,683,000 doses in Metro Manila. If you break it down, around 8,437 have received at least one dose, which is 86%, while 6.2 million have been fully vaccinated, which is 63%.]

Abalos said that by October 16, around 7.7 million NCR residents will be fully vaccinated against the illness.

“So kinompute namin. So kung September 16, siguro mga October 16, more or less, 7.7 million na approximately ang dalawa na ang bakuna o kulang-kulang 79 to 80% ng buong Metro Manila,” he said.

[So we computed it. By October 16, more or less 7.7 million would have received 2 doses or around 79 to 80% of Metro Manila.]

“Kung isasama mo ‘yung Astra na tatlong buwan, December 15, siguro mga 89%. So napakaganda,” he added.

[If you include Astra which has a three month period, December 15, around 89%. It's very good.]

The MMDA chair stressed the importance of continuous testing, isolation, and granular lockdowns while the government opens the economy.

“Sana maunawan natin ito… dahil ang tanging gustong lang naman ng mga alkalde ay wag mag spread ang virus natin,” he said.

[I hope the public can understand... All the mayors want is to curb the spread of the virus.]

The Department of the Interior and Local Government earlier said that 57 areas were placed under granular lockdowns in the NCR a day after the start of its pilot implementation.

Meanwhile, OCTA announced that the NCR’s virus reproduction number continues to improve as it slipped further to 1.28 for the period covering September 9 to 15.

A reproduction number of one or higher is an indication of the continuous transmission of the virus.

“So sana mapa-plateu natin ng 1 ito. Kung tumataas nga siya hindi ganon kataas. Biglang mag plateu ito, ‘yung ang hinahabol natin. Talagang pagod ang mga mayors, frontliners, mga doctor, lahat pagod dito, pero yan ang goal natin,” he said.

[I hope it will decrease to 1. If it increases, it's not by much. Our goal is for it to suddenly plateau. All the mayors, frontliners, doctors, are tired, but that is our goal.]

The Philippines has logged a total of 2,324,475 confirmed cases. — RSJ, GMA News
