224 NCR areas under granular lockdown — PNP

The number of areas under granular lockdown in the National Capital Region (NCR) increased from 219 to 224 as of Thursday, based on the data of the Philippine National Police released Friday.

These areas were reported in 123 barangays in Metro Manila.

The areas under lockdown include 125 houses, 39 residential buildings, 15 subdivisions or villages, 12 residential building floors, 11 streets, and 22 others.

At least 573 PNP personnel and 663 force multipliers have been deployed in these areas to ensure security and adherence to minimum health standards.

Concerned local government units decide on imposing and lifting lockdowns in these areas, the PNP Public Information Office said.

On Thursday, the Inter-Agency Task Force decided to extend the pilot implementation of the Alert Levels System in Metro Manila until October 15, 2021.

Metro Manila Council (MMC) head and Parañaque Mayor Edwin Olivarez earlier said the presence of one COVID-19 case is enough to impose a lockdown on a house or a condominium floor.

To impose a lockdown on an entire street, he said there should be at least two COVID-19 cases.

Granular lockdowns are micro-level quarantine for areas classified as "critical zones" by the local government unit (LGU). According to officials, granular lockdowns could be implemented on a house, compound, street or building with high cases of infections. — Joviland Rita/RSJ, GMA News
