Cops in Jake Cuenca car chase relieved

Five police officers who were involved in the car chase with actor Jake Cuenca were relieved from their posts, according to a report on "24 Oras" on Monday.

Initial reports indicated that the police completed a drug operation in Mandaluyong City when a Cuenca's vehicle rammed into the police car.

Cuenca allegedly drove away resulting in a car chase. Police then fired at the tires of the actor to stop it.

A motorist was also hit by a stray bullet during the chase.

The five police officers could also face administrative charges,  Eastern Police District (EPD) director Police Brigadier General Matthew Bacay said.

"Hindi po siya part ng SOP for a police officer to use and discharge a firearm doon sa mga humahabol ng fleeing suspects," he said.

Meanwhile, PNP chief General Guillermo Eleazar said Cuenca would be held accountable for fleeing after bumping a police vehicle.

"We understand the negative sentiments of our kababayan on this issue but let us not forget why this incident happened in the first place. May isang motorista na imbis na humingi ng paumanhin at panagutan ang kaniyang pagkakamali ay gumawa ng eksenang pang-teleserye at pampelikula," Eleazar said.
