PNP: NCR areas under lockdown now 125, down from 131

The number of areas in the National Capital Region under granular lockdown has gone down from 131 to 125 as of Tuesday, data from the Philippine National Police (PNP) showed Wednesday.

In an update, the PNP said the areas under granular lockdown were reported in 83 barangays in Metro Manila.

These areas included 72 houses, 24 subdivisions or villages, 18 residential buildings, six streets, and a residential building floor.

The local government units (LGUs) decide on imposing and lifting granular lockdowns, according to the PNP Public Information Office.

To ensure security and adherence to minimum health standards, the PNP has deployed 420 personnel and 485 force multipliers in the concerned areas.

Metro Manila Council (MMC) head and Parañaque Mayor Edwin Olivarez earlier said the presence of one COVID-19 case is enough to impose a lockdown on a house or a condominium floor.

To impose a lockdown on an entire street, he said there should be at least two COVID-19 cases.

Granular lockdowns are micro-level quarantine for areas classified as "critical zones" by the local government unit (LGU).

According to officials, granular lockdowns could be implemented on a house, compound, street or building with high cases of infections. — Joviland Rita/RSJ, GMA News
