Newly overhauled MRT3 train coaches now 32, says DOTr

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Tuesday said the number of newly overhauled Metro Rail Transit-Line 3 (MRT3) light rail vehicles (LRV) or train coaches running has reached 32.

This was after one LRV has been deployed on the mainline.

"Umakyat na sa 32 ang bilang ng umaarangkadang newly-overhauled light rail vehicles (LRVs) sa linya ng MRT-3, matapos tagumpay na maideploy sa mainline ang isa pa ng pamunuan," the DOTr said in a Facebook post.

The DOTr said the newly overhauled LRVs underwent strict quality and speed tests before these were deployed to ensure passenger safety.

The general overhauling of the train coaches is part of the comprehensive rehabilitation of the MRT3 through maintenance provider Sumitomo-MHI-TESP, it added.

The DOTr said it will continue to implement the guideline of 30% passenger capacity in the trains. This means only 124 passengers per train car or 372 passengers per train set will be allowed.

Meanwhile, the department again reminded the riding public to follow health and safety protocols such as wearing of face mask and face shield, no talking or using cellphone and no eating while inside the MRT3. —KG, GMA News
