Lim to revive spray paint campaign vs drug pushers in Manila

MANILA, Philippines - Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim is planning to revive the controversial spray paint campaign against drug users and pushers as the city government steps up its efforts against illegal drugs. Lim made the disclosure Wednesday after a meeting with Manila Police District (MPD) officials led by Chief Superintendent Roberto Rosales to discuss programs against drugs and other crimes in the city. “We plan to revive the spray paint campaign against drug pushers and sellers. We were authorized by the regional trial court to conduct spray painting, but we were reversed by the Court of Appeals,” Lim said. Lim recalled that the ordinance on spray paint campaign was declared null and void by the CA. He said they lost the case due to technicality. “We have appealed before the Supreme Court. I plan to revive this and will take this up with Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency chief Dionisio Santiago,” Lim said. The Manila mayor said he is optimistic that the spray paint campaign would succeed this time. “We lost due to a technicality. So, I will take up this with PDEA chief so we can discuss on how we push through with this plan without problem with the law,” he said. - GMANews.TV
