GMA reporter Dan Campilan, 25, dies in vehicular accident


Reporter Dan Campilan of GMA News met an untimely death on Saturday when the car he was driving collided head-on with a passenger bus, along Quirino Highway in Lagro, Quezon City. Campilan was headed for Bulacan at about 5:30 am Saturday, when his Toyota Corolla car hit the oncoming Mayamy bus bound for Sta. Cruz, Manila. The bus was thrown off the wall after it hit the driver's side of Campilan's car. Campilan sustained serious injuries. Men of the Quezon City Police Mobile Group rushed to the scene and brought Campilan to the San Lazaro Hospital in nearby Barangay Putik, Novaliches. Dr Jose Tito Marasigan, attending physician, said Campilan was taken to the hospital at 6:10 am. He died at around 7:40 am. The bus driver, Danilo de Vera-Cruz, told the Quezon City Traffic Sector police that he was on the right-of-way side of the road when the accident happened. PO1 Dennis Saño said that at about 5:45 am, a man informed the Quezon City Police Traffic Sector 2 unit about a vehicular accident at the boundary of Quezon City and Caloocan City. Danifel Manaba Campilan, 25, was born in Mabolo, Cebu City (click on link to Campilan's profile at iGMA.TV). Work prompted him to establish residence in Tandang Sora, Quezon City, away from his family members. He would have turned 25 years old on November 27. A scholar of the Department of Science and Technology, Campilan was a student of the Cebu Institute of Technology, Florencio Urot National High School Mandaue Academy, and Mabolo Elementary School. Before GMA News, Campilan worked with RPN Channel 9 for two years, and with Bombo Radyo Philippines at its Makati City office. Campilan's remains will lie at the Funeraria Nacional on Araneta Avenue in Quezon City before interment in Cebu. - GMAnews.Tv
