NCRPO readies for possible transport strike

Police in Metro Manila have started preparing contingency plans for a possible strike by transport groups protesting recent fuel price hikes. Metro Manila police head Chief Superintendent Alan Purisima ordered all units to ensure the public is not inconvenienced, radio dzBB reported Tuesday. Also, Purisima ordered the district commanders under him to make sure there are enough police personnel on the streets during the strike. The preparations are in connection with a planned transport strike led by militant groups like the Pinagkaisang Samahan ng Tsuper at Opereytor Nationwide (PISTON). Earlier reports quoted PISTON secretary general George San Mateo as saying that even a dialogue between Malacañang and transport groups on Wednesday will not stop the strike. San Mateo also branded the planned dialogue as “pambobola" to divide the transport sector. — RSJ, GMA News
