Pasay court wants police advice on Arroyo's possible jail transfer

The Pasay City court handling the electoral sabotage charges against former President Gloria Arroyo wants to consult the Philippine National Police (PNP) on the security implications of transferring Arroyo from a government hospital to a regular jail.   Pasay City Judge Jesus Mupas summoned PNP Police Security Protection Group head Chief Superintendent Lina Sarmiento to Friday's hearing that will tackle the Commission on Elections' (Comelec) motion for Arroyo's transfer. According to a report of radio dzBB's Sam Nielsen, Sarmiento will comment on possible security issues should for the court grant the Comelec's motion to have Arroyo transferred to a regular jail. Arroyo, incumbent Pampanga Representative, has been under hospital arrest at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (WMMC) in Quezon City since December 9 last year. Before that, she was detained at the St. Luke's Medical Center (SLMC) in Taguig City since she was arrested on November 18 last year. At that time, Arroyo was confined at SLMC for a bone problem. She underwent three surgeries last year.   The radio dzBB report noted Arroyo's camp claimed that the former president was still suffering from back and neck pains.   The VMMC already submitted to the Pasay City court its medical records on the former president.   The dzBB report said the documents included a three-page clinical abstract, a one-page orthopedic abstract, and Arroyo's medical abstract. - VVP, GMA News
