Dolphy nomination for National Artist 'under evaluation' — NCCA

The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) said Friday that veteran actor-comedian Dolphy is among those whose nominations for National Artist are pending and being evaluated.   “For the moment, we understand that Mang Dolphy has been nominated and is now undergoing the process of evaluation—along with other noteworthy artists,” the statement read.   Of late, the public—many celebrities included—has been making impassioned calls on the government to give Dolphy the award.    Some have criticized the commission for taking too long to confer the award.   In response to these views, the NCCA explained that the fact it has not given the award yet does not mean they do not intend to.   “It can be readily seen that the selection of the National Artists is a long process which sometimes takes about two years. That Mang Dolphy has not been awarded the recognition yet does not reflect on the government or the arts sector wanting or not wanting to do so,” the statement said.   Meanwhile, Dolphy’s son actor-director Eric Quizon said that the award is “the least of their [family’s] worries.”   “Right now, I want my dad’s health to improve. Tsaka nalang natin pag-usapan yung National Artist,” he said at a press conference Friday evening.   “But if they’re going to give it to him, thank you very much,” he added. — ELR, GMA News
