Palace: SONA day not a holiday

July 23, the Monday when President Benigno Aquino III will deliver his State of the Nation Address before a joint session of Congress, is not a holiday, said Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte.

Valte explained that she has not received any advice regarding a plan by the Palace to cancel work and school for that day.

“Parang hindi naman. Wala akong narinig ganyang usapan magiging nonworking holiday,” she said on government-run dzRB radio.

The SONA is a duty given the president by the Constitution which is to be carried out on the fourth Monday of July, when congress opens its regular session.

Valte said Aquino is reviewing the latest draft of the SONA.

She also said that Aquino will likely sport a new, Paul-Cabral designed barong for the occasion. — DVM, GMA News
