37 suspects charged in Marc Andre Marcos 'hazing' case

Police have filed murder charges against 37 suspects in the alleged hazing of San Beda law student Marc Andre Marcos, who died July 30 after undergoing alleged  initiation rites of the Lex Leonum Fraternitas. The suspects also face charges of violation of the anti-hazing law.   According to a report on GMA’s “24 Oras,” among the suspects facing charges are Angelito Veluz, and his wife Violeta, owners of the farm in Dasmariñas, Cavite, where the police said the initation rites of Lex Leonum Fraternitas supposedly took place.   Their son Gian Angelo Veluz, an alleged official of Lex Leonum Fraternitas, is also being charged, along with other neophytes who were supposedly with Andre during the hazing incident.   Police have a pending request for an arrest warrant for the younger Veluz last August 6.   In an earlier report, the police said that based on their investigation, Marcos underwent hazing along with eight other neophytes. The police also said that they have tagged as many as 34 suspects in the case.   According to the “24 Oras” report, the Marcos family has also filed charges against some San Beda college faculty members they believe knew of the hazing incident.   “Hindi natin sila inaname at this point in time, kaya ang nakalagay sa complaint natin ay several John Does who are school authorities and faculty members na maaring nagkaroon ng knowledge sa hazing incident,” Atty. Marimier Marcos Rivera, the victim’s aunt, said in the report.   “The cry has always been justice for Andre kaya ito po ay simula pa lamang ng aming tinatawag na legal battle,” she said.   “In a way, isang malaking hakbang na ito para makamit ang justice para kay Andrei,” the victim’s father Mac Ferdie Marcos said.   “Magsisimula na ang judicial process para sa pagtutugis ng lahat ng may sala dito,” he added. — Amanda T.
