Comelec chief: No extension of voter sign-up after 5 pm on October 31

After having told Filipinos to register for the 2013 elections since the middle of last year, the Commission on Elections stressed it will no longer extend the registration period.

Comelec chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr. made this clear on his Twitter account as he said the Comelec will remain open on Friday, a holiday, to accommodate those who wish to register.

"The deadline as we have announced 16 months ago will be Oct. 31, 2012 at 5pm. There will be NO EXTENSION," he said.

Brillantes said that until Oct. 31, the Comelec will accommodate "new registration, reactivation of deactivated registration, revalidation and transfer."

October 26 had been declared a holiday to mark Eidul Adha.

"Despite being a regular holiday (Eidul Adha), all Comelec offices nationwide will be open for registration on October 26, 2012," Brillantes also said. — ELR, GMA News
