PNP expects to work smoothly with MILF for peaceful 2013 polls in Mindanao

The Philippine National Police expects a big boost from the Moro Islamic Liberation Front in ensuring peaceful elections in Mindanao in May 2013.

PNP chief Director General Nicanor Bartolome said this is part of the framework peace agreement signed last October, radio dzBB's Glen Juego reported Wednesday.

Bartolome was quoted in the report as saying the MILF has committed to help ensure security in parts of Mindanao after signing the peace agreement in Malacañang last Oct. 15.

Ranking government and MILF officials had signed the framework agreement that aims to replace the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao with a new Bangsamoro entity.

Peace negotiators of the MILF and the government are also meeting in Malaysia for another round of exploratory talks.

For its part, Bartolome said the PNP continues to make preparations to ensure peaceful elections next May.
