PAGASA: Crising may make landfall 2 more times; 23 areas under Signal 1


After making landfall over Davao del Sur, Tropical Depression Crising may make landfall at least two more times before exiting the Philippine area of responsibility, state weather forecasters said Tuesday. PAGASA forecaster Aldczar Aurelio also said their models showed that there is a chance Crising may intensify into a tropical storm on Wednesday. "Maaring lumapit ito sa Basilan bukas ng madaling araw, then sa southern tip ng Palawan. Afterward lalabas siya ng Philippine area of responsibility Thursday afternoon," Aurelio said in an interview on dzBB radio. "May possibility na second landfall sa Basilan, at third sa southern tip ng Palawan," he added. Earlier, PAGASA said Crising had made landfall over the southern tip of Davao del Sur. Storm signals PAGASA, in its 7 p.m. advisory, said Crising was estimated to be 150 km west of General Santos City. In its earlier 5 p.m. Update, PAGASA said Crising had  maximum winds of 45 kph near the center and was moving west-northwest at 24 kph. It is expected to be 250 km west of Zamboanga City Wednesday afternoon. By Thursday afternoon it is expected to be 500 km southwest of Puerto Princesa City. Areas under Storm Signal No. 1 include: Southern Palawan Davao del Norte Davao del Sur Samal Island Davao Oriental Compostela Valley southern part of Surigao del Sur Agusan del Sur Bukidnon Lanao del Norte Lanao del Sur North Cotabato Maguindanao Sultan Kudarat South Cotabato Sarangani Misamis Occidental Zamboanga del Norte Zamboanga del Sur Zamboanga Sibugay Basilan Sulu Tawi-Tawi PAGASA reminded residents in low-lying and mountainous areas under Storm Signal No. 1 to be alert against possible flash floods and landslides. It said Crising may bring rainfall of 5 to 15 mm per hour (moderate to heavy) within its 300-km diameter. "Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the northern, eastern and southern seaboards of Luzon, the central and eastern seaboards of Visayas and eastern seaboard of Mindanao," it said. — DVM, GMA News
