69% satisfied with PNoy performance in 4th quarter – SWS

(Updated 11:18 a.m.) Nearly seven out of 10 Filipinos or 69 percent were satisfied with President Benigno Aquino III's performance in the fourth quarter of 2013, according to a new survey by pollster Social Weather Stations.

According to the results of the poll, which were posted early Thursday on BusinessWorld's website, Aquino's satisfaction score means he was rated as "good," subtracting the 21 percent who were dissatisfied from the 69 percent satisfied.

SWS considers net satisfaction scores of +70 and above as "excellent"; +50 to +69 as "very good"; +30 to +49 as "good"; +10 to +29 as "moderate", +9 to -9 as "neutral"; -10 to -29 as "poor"; -30 to -49 as "bad"; -50 to -69 as "very bad"; and -70 and below as "execrable."

The SWS noted that Aquino's overall score for 2013 amounted to a "very good" of +55, a slight improvement from the +53, also considered "very good," in 2011 and 2012.

Aquino's record high +62 rating, also considered "very good," was achieved in his first year in office.

The SWS pointed out that Aquino's scores were much the same as three months earlier, when in September, 68 percent were satisfied while 19 percent were not.

The fourth-quarter scores also proved his critics wrong, as they had predicted his ratings would nosedive due to the government's supposedly slow response to super typhoon Yolanda.

The poll was conducted from Dec. 11 to 16, using face-to-face interviews of 1,200 Filipinos nationwide. Sampling error margins of ±3% for national and ±6% for area percentages applied to the survey.

Palace elated

Malacañang on Thursday was happy with the results, saying in a statement the survey "make it evident" that "the Filipino people continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with the Aquino administration."

"In lieu of the usual naysayers trying to promote the impression that there is a general dissatisfaction among the Filipino people, the survey shows that an overwhelming majority in Balance Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, as well as a healthy majority in Metro Manila, are solidly with the President," the Office of the Presidential Spokesperson said.

It likewise said the public proved that they are "on the side of true public service and are unswayed by mere politicking."

"These results serve as a reassurance: The Filipino people, who he has constantly referred to as his strength, continue to stand behind him. They believe in his leadership, founded on efficiency, firmness, and foresight," it said.

"The administration will continue working overtime to propelling our country along the path to recovery and, ultimately, to unprecedented prosperity. Surely, with the belief and the participation of the Filipino people, we cannot fail," it said.

Regions

The SWS survey showed satisfaction with Aquino fell sharply in Metro Manila, but improved in Mindanao, Balance Luzon and the Visayas.

In the Yolanda-ravaged Visayas, Aquino’s net score improved to a "very good" +50 from a "good" +48 in September.

In Balance Luzon, Aquino's satisfaction score remained "very good" at +54, a two-point improvement. It also remained "very good" in Mindanao at +53, a one-point rise.

But in Metro Manila, Aquino's rating fell to a "moderate" +22 from a "good" +38 in September.

Meanwhile, the SWS said Aquino's net satisfaction rating stayed "very good" at + 58 in the rural areas, a six-point improvement from September.

Urban satisfaction dipped by five points but remained "good" at +42.

Socio-economic class, gender

Among the ABC socio-economic classes, Aquino gained 13 points, with the rating remaining at a "very good" +68.

His ratings rose by 18 points to a "very good" +57 among the Class E, which gave him a "good" +39 in September.

But Aquino's ratings fell among the Class D from a "very good" +52 in September to a "good" +45 in December.
