2 groups expected to lodge impeach raps vs. PNoy this week

At least two militant groups are expected to file impeachment complaints against President Benigno Aquino III this coming week.

The Bagong Alyansang Makabayan and Kabataan party-list are expected to file their respective complaints on Wednesday and Thursday, radio dzBB's Rowena Salvacion reported.

Impeachment complaints against Aquino – including one filed by former Rep. Augusto Syjuco – are expected after the Supreme Court declared parts of the Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP) unconstitutional.

But Aquino has rejected the resignation of Budget Secretary Florencio Abad, the official behind the DAP.

Kabataan's Ridon, in posts on his Twitter account, said Aquino's rejection of Abad's resignation "gives further resolve for the impeachment of the President."

He cited as bases betrayal of public trust including "cronyism and favoritism."

For his part, Bayan secretary general  Renato Reyes Jr. said Aquino's  rejection of Abad’s resignation shows he is "protecting Abad and in turn protecting himself."

"Let us all remember that Aquino and Abad are in the same boat as both signed the memos ordering DAP releases," Reyes said.

"The unrepentant Dynamic DAP Duo of Abad and Aquino must be made accountable. This latest incident thus strengthens calls for Aquino’s impeachment and removal from office," he added.

Meanwhile, dzBB's Salvacion quoted Ridon as saying more than 50 complainants are in Kabataan's complaint.

But Ridon also admitted only seven lawmakers at this time are expected to support the move.

The support of a third of the 290 House members is needed to transmit the impeachment complaint. — Joel Locsin /LBG, GMA News
