NDRRMC warns residents vs. flood, landslide as Typhoon Jose enhances monsoon

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council has warned residents of flood- and landslide-prone areas in Luzon to take appropriate precautions as Typhoon Jose (Halong) enhances the southwest monsoon.

NDRRMC executive director Alexander Pama on Monday said they are particularly keeping watch over areas in river basins, such as Pampanga and Zambales in Central Luzon.

"Ang tinututukan natin itong mga bayan at kanayunan kung saan tinatawag na major river basin natin kagaya sa lugar ng Zambales, ilog ng Pampanga, at 'yan talagang tinututukan natin," Pama said in an interview on GMA's Unang Balita.

He said they have issued warnings to the communities that are prone to floods and landslides.

Pama said the NDRRMC has coordinated with the Department of Interior and Local Government on the matter.

"(T)ayo nagbibigay ng babala sa komunidad na kandidato ng baha at landslide," he said.

Also, he said the NDRRMC is working closely with state weather agency PAGASA and Project NOAH, which he said are running simulations to pinpoint areas that may be hit by floods and landslides.

Earlier, GMA News' Julius Segovia reported intermittent rain in Zambales, with rescue teams preparing equipment to assist people who may be affected by the bad weather.

However, another photo posted by GMA's Segovia on Twitter showed an evacuation center in Subic has a damaged roof, with the damage caused by Typhoon Glenda (Rammasun) last July (https://twitter.com/gmanews/status/496112681460322305).
