Monsoon enhanced by Typhoon Jose affects 3,995, causes P1.6M damage

Bad weather conditions from the southwest monsoon enhanced by Typhoon Jose (Halong) affected nearly 4,000 people and caused at least P1.6 million in damage, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Thursday.

In its 8 a.m. update, the NDRRMC said the monsoon affected 1,129 families or 3,995 people in Pangasinan alone, with those affected being served outside evacuation centers.

At least two people from Pangasinan remained missing—Ronald Perez and Rodnel Javillonar—who were swept away by strong currents last Aug. 5.

The NDRRMC also said the damage to agriculture in Pangasinan alone was initially estimated at P1,623,925.13.

For Thursday, the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council in Ilocos region was placed on modified blue alert.

While the NDRRMC did not elaborate, a blue alert usually requires at least half of personnel to be at their posts at any time.
