JPE writing second book, to be published ‘after he’s gone’ –daughter

With his health failing, Senate Minority Floor Leader Juan Ponce Enrile is making use of his time in hospital detention by writing his second book, his daughter Katrina Ponce-Enrile said Friday.

In an interview shown on “24 Oras,” Katrina said she knows nothing about the contents of the book except that it is “something close to his heart,” and that he wants it published “after he is gone.”

Enrile, 90, is under hospital arrest at the PNP General Hospital inside Camp Crame in connection with the alleged pork barrel scam. He has already published a memoir.

A veteran politician, Enrile is facing one count of plunder and 15 counts of graft for allegedly receiving P172 million in kickbacks by funnelling his Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF), or pork barrel, to bogus non-government organizations of alleged scam mastermind Janet Lim-Napoles.

According to Katrina, who visits her father almost every day, her father has gone thinner and sadder while in detention.

“We’re trying to keep it (Enrile’s health condition) under control because of all the stress. We’re trying but he’s old, he needs medical attention,”she said.

Enrile has a pending motion before the Sandiganbayan Third Division for his transfer to a regular medical facility.

Katrina said that despite the cases that her father is facing, some individuals are still encouraging him to remain in politics.

“We have been approached many times... but I cannot say, I have faith with my dad, I believe what he says. We just have to be strong especially for him,” she said. —Elizabeth Marcelo/KBK, GMA News
