Gigi Reyes banged her head accidentally—lawyer

The lawyer of Jessica Lucila “Gigi” Reyes on Thursday dismissed speculation that his client purposely banged her head on the wall as she experienced another anxiety attack on August 5.

“Wala naman sigurong gagawa nun, na iuuntog mo yung sarili mo sa pader. Accidental 'yun obviously,” lawyer Anacleto Diaz said in a chance interview.

At the hearing of the Sandiganbayan Third Division on Reyes’ motion to undergo Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Magnetic Resonance Angiogram (MRA) of the brain, Diaz said the tests should be performed by a neuro-stereologist which most government hospitals do not have.

Philippine General Hospital (PGH) director Dr. Jose Gonzalez, who was incidentally present during the hearing to testify on a separate motion of Senator Juan Ponce Enrile for hospital arrest, said the PGH had neuro-stereologists who can perform the MRI and MRA on Reyes.

“Then we are amenable,” Diaz said.

The motion was then submitted for the court’s resolution.

According to the motion, “on August 5, accused Reyes suffered another anxiety attack which caused her to hit her head on the wall of her detention cell at the BJMP Taguig City Jail.”

Diaz said that after the incident, Reyes begun experiencing spasm on her right eyelid and cheek and slurring of speech.

“When she speaks there is this slurring which is unusual because she is a very articulate person. Nagkakaroon ng difficulty focusing. Para masiguro natin na yung condition niya ay ma-address immediately, we requested for the MRI and MRA, ” Diaz said.

Reyes, together with her former boss, Enrile, is facing plunder and graft charges in connection with their alleged participation in the multibillion-peso pork barrel fund scam.

Reyes is currently detained at the BJMP female dormitory in Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig while Enrile is under provisional hospital arrest at the Philippine National Police General Hospital inside Camp Crame in Quezon City.

Reyes was once rushed to Taguig-Pateros District Hospital after experiencing palpitation and shortness of breath due to mixed anxiety disorder. —NB, GMA News
