PAGCOR to finance construction of P2B-worth of classrooms

State-run gaming regulator Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) will finance the construction of 1,500 classrooms, worth P2 billion, the Department of Education (DepEd) said Tuesday.

In an emailed statement, DepEd said it had signed a memorandum of agreement with PAGCOR and the Public Works Department for the construction of the classrooms.

“Classrooms are the most basic social infrastructure that we should continue to provide all over the country," said Public Works Secretary Rogelio Singson.

According to PAGCOR Chairman Cristino Naguiat Jr., his agency would would also look into funding school buildings and school computers.

The location of the classrooms will be identified based on DepEd's data on classroom needs. Classrooms will be constructed in accordance with PAGCOR's design elements. — Kathryn Mae P. Tubadeza/DVM, GMA News
