Palace renews appeal not to panic over Ebola as final info on isolated peacekeeper due Monday

As it expects the Department of Health to provide by Monday "final information" on a Filipino peacekeeper isolated due to fever symptoms, Malacanang on Saturday reiterated its appeal to the public not to panic over a possible Ebola threat.

Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said the peacekeeper's condition is being continuously monitored after he was brought to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine on Friday.

"(T)ini-test po natin siya at binabantayan po ang kanyang kondisyon. The DOH has assured us of final information on his condition by Monday. So huwag po tayong mag-panic at wala pong dahilan para mag-panic," she said on state-run dzRB radio.

On Friday, the Department of Health announced one of the 133 peacekeepers was isolated after showing symptoms of fever.

Last Wednesday, the 133 Filipino peacekeepers arrived from Ebola-stricken Liberia, and were whisked to an island near Corregidor for a 21-day quarantine.

As of Friday evening, a report on "24 Oras" by GMA News' Saleema Refran said the RITM indicated the peacekeeper is stable and he is now resting.

In the meantime, Valte advised the public to get reliable information from the government. — Joel Locsin /LBG, GMA News
