Informant to get $5-M bounty if Marwan is confirmed dead

The Department of National Defense on Thursday said it would be the informant of the PNP-Special Action Force who will get the multi-million-dollar reward if suspected Malaysian bombmaker and Jemaah Islamiya leader Zulkifli bin Hir, alias Marwan, was confirmed dead.

In a radio interview on Thursday, Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin confirmed the $5 million bounty on suspected Malaysian bomb expert and Jemaah Islamiyah leader Zulkipli Bin Hir alias Abu Marwan's head will go to the informant.

“Ang makakakuha ng reward dyan 'yung informant.... Kahit 'yung mga intelligence operation kailangan ng informant,” Gazmin said.

On Sunday, the Philippine Government launched a massive operation to serve the warrant against Marwan in Mamasapano, Maguindanao, a known moro rebel stronghold.

Almost 400 policemen conducted the operation but 44 were killed and 12 were injured in what government officials called a misencounter with members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.

Erstwhile SAF director Getulio Napeñas believes the team had neutralized Marwan.

A GMA News report, however, quoted a source as saying that the body believed to be Marwan's actually belonged to one of his aides.

For its part, the government said it was going to wait for DNA tests to verify whether the slain subject is really Marwan.

Gazmin also said that all the questions about the “misencounter” can only be answered by the Board of Inquiry formed to investigate the incident and the survivors.

He also urged the PNP and even the Armed Forces of the Philippines and all other Government security branches to keep a clear mind while the investigation is ongoing.

“Nananawagan ako sa mga kabaro ko at mga kasundaluhan at kapulisan na antayin natin yung resulta nung ating imbestigasyon para malaman natin at hindi tayo nag-e-speculate ng mga detalye. Kailangan malaman natin 'yung katotohanan bago tayo gumawa ng anumang hakbang,” Gazmin said. —NB, GMA News
