Intl journos’ group calls Sajid Ampatuan’s release on bail a denial of justice

An international media watchdog group this week voiced outrage over the release on bail of a suspect in the infamous 2009 Maguindanao Massacre.

The International Federation of Journalists condemned the release of Sajid Ampatuan last March 9, after he posted a surety bond of P11.6 million.

"The granting of bail to a key accused in the brutal massacre is an outrageous denial of justice for the victims and families," the The judiciary and justice department in the Philippines continue to say they are working for justice, yet their actions in this matter appear to tell another story," said IFJ Asia Pacific deputy director Jane Worthington.

IFJ said Sajid, the son of clan patriarch and co-accused Andal Ampatuan Sr., was allegedly present at the meetings when the massacre was planned.

At the time of the massacre, it added Sajid was allegedly acting Maguindanao governor.
