Sen. Grace Poe confirms meeting PNoy to discuss possible 2016 candidacies

Senator Grace Poe confirmed on Saturday that she had met and discussed possible 2016 election alliances and candidacies with President Benigno Aquino III before Aquino left for his state visit in Canada.

“The President and I met and he reiterated the importance of selecting a candidate who will continue the programs of reform and good governance,” Poe said in a news release.

But Poe emphasized that there was “no mention of what particular position” she would be offered if she agreed to be part of the Liberal Party's lineup.

Aquino had earlier revealed that he had met with the senator, but gave no details on the meeting other than to say that they talked about ideas on how to continue his administration's policies.

The president nevertheless hinted that he was open to the possibility of Poe running in tandem with Interior Secretary Mar Roxas, who is widely believed to be the Liberal Party's candidate for the 2016 presidential elections.

Poe was part of the administration's ticket in 2013 as a guest candidate and has recently enjoyed a steady increase in popularity based on recent polls. — Andrei Medina/DVM, GMA News
