Rep. Binay on dad's running mate in 2016 polls: Anyone but Trillanes

It is no secret that Vice President Jejomar Binay plans to run for president in 2016 but his choice of running mate is still a mystery.

Makati Rep. Abigail Binay said that her father is open to working with anyone, including Senator Grace Poe, whose ratings in surveys have skyrocketed and is now statistically tied with the vice president. Poe has not declared her plans for 2016 yet, however.

“She has to decide, first, if she wants to run, and second, if she is going to run for president or vice president,” Rep. Binay said.

She said her father can also run alongside Sen. Francis "Chiz" Escudero, former presidential adviser on rehabilitation Ping Lacson, Manila Mayor Erap Estrada, and Davao Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.

“Why not? Anybody but Trillanes. Aawayin ko tatay ko pag pinili niya si Trillanes!” she said, referring to Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV, who has been active in Senate hearings on corruption allegations against the Binays.

Trillanes has been reported to be eyeing the vice presidency, and has been at the forefront of several exposes and even personal attacks against the vice president.

I’m ready, I’m waiting

The younger Binay recently called on Trillanes to resign over what she said were unsubstantiated allegations that her family paid over P50 million to Court of Appeals justices to secure a Temporary Restraining Order against her brother Makati Mayor Junjun Binay's suspension by the Office of the Ombudsman.

Rep. Binay reiterated her challenge, and taunted the senator to make good on his threat that he will investigate her Priority Development Assisstance Fund allocations.

Binay said she is raring to go and is willing to set aside parliamentary courtesy to face Trillanes at the Senate. She said she has nothing to fear because she has nothing to hide. — JDS, GMA News
