Over 5M voters’ IDs still unclaimed —Comelec

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said over 5.5 million voters' IDs are still not claimed by registered voters as of March 2015.

"We have over five million IDs that are unclaimed. We are wondering why they are not being claimed," Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said.

According to data from the Comelec-Election and Barangay Affairs Department (EBAD), a total of 5,506,524 voters' IDs have yet to be claimed.

So far, Comelec has already released 22,567,882 voters' IDs to the city and municipal Offices of Election Officers (OEOs).

Most of the unclaimed IDs are in the Calabarzon area with 1,018,693, followed by Metro Manila with 878,192.

Some 2,730,976 voters' IDs, meanwhile, have been withheld by OEOs due to deactivation, cancellation, and transfer of registration, as well as correction of entries, Comelec said.

Jimenez reminded the public that the IDs can be claimed at OEOs in their localities. The IDs are free, he added. —KG, GMA News
