PNoy seeks ‘united ticket’ with Grace Poe, Chiz

(Updated 12:30 a.m.) President Benigno Aquino III met with Senators Grace Poe and Francis Escudero on Thursday, said that he hopes that they will be united during the 2016 polls.

Poe confirmed the meeting in a text message.

“We discussed 2016, but only to the extent of hopefully having a united ticket,” she said.
She added that the president still did not make any offer for her to run for a particular position.

Although not members of any political party,Poe and Escudero ran as guest candidates under the Liberal Party-led Team PNoy in 2013.

Poe is the most preferred presidential candidate for 2016, based on recent surveys conducted by the Social Weather Stations and Pulse Asia.

Although the neophyte senator has yet to announce her plans for 2016, her eligibility to run for president has already been questioned.

“Hindi pa nga po ako nagdedeklara at hindi pa ako nakakarating sa puntong nagdedesisyon, gayunpaman, marami na ring iniisip na manira. Minsan, naiisip ko, ito ba ay dapat, ang sakripisyo ba na ito ay kaya ko?" she said in a radio interview on Monday.

Escudero, who came second to Poe as choice for next vice-president based on recent surveys, meanwhile said in a separate text message that they discussed “permutations for 2016” during their meeting with Aquino.

Aquino, meanwhile, chairs the Liberal Party, whose members are eyeing Interior Secretary Mar Roxas as standard-bearer for the 2016 polls.

The president said he will anoint his preferred successor this month. — JDS, GMA News
