No tsunami threat from Santa Cruz Islands quake - PHIVOLCS

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology on Saturday allayed fears of a tsunami stemming from a magnitude-7.5 quake in Santa Cruz Islands.

In an advisory, PHIVOLCS said there is no tsunami threat from the quake recorded at 10:28 a.m., Philippine time.

"No destructive tsunami threat exists based on the historical and tsunami data. However, hazardous tsunami waves from this earthquake are possible within 300 km of the epicenter along the coasts of Solomon Islands," it said.

It added "there is no tsunami threat to the Philippines from this earthquake." - Joel Locsin/JST, GMA News
