Former ‘Pasugo’ editor expelled from Iglesia Ni Cristo

(Updated 11:44 a.m.) Isaias Samson Jr., the former editor of the church's official publication "Pasugo," and his family were expelled from the Iglesia Ni Cristo on Friday.

The announcement was made during church services early Friday morning.

Edwil Zabala, spokesperson of Iglesia Ni Cristo, said the expulsion of Samson from the church is due to the latter's refusal to submit to the authority of the church.

Samson Jr., who claimed he was illegally detained by the Iglesia's Sanggunian, said corruption allegedly thrives in the church.

In a report on GMA News TV's "State of the Nation with Jessica Soho" on Thursday, Samson said there are anomalies involving Iglesia's socio-civic program "Lingap sa Mamamayan," for instance.

In an interview on "News To Go" on Friday morning Zabala confirmed some members have been expelled, including Samson.

He was quoted in the report as saying that a circular containing some other names may have been read during the early morning service.

Hostage claim belied

Zabala belied Samson's claim that he was held against his will, adding that "Walang hino-hostage ang Pamunuan ng Iglesia ni Cristo.

He also belied accusations of corruption in the Church.

He suspected that some members had hidden agenda.

Despite the controversy, he said their faith in the Iglesia ni Cristo has remained unshaken. —KG/LBG, GMA News
