Recto shuts door on Mar-Vi tandem for 2016

Senator Ralph Recto on Friday shunned the possibility of his wife's vice presidential candidacy under the ruling Liberal Party (LP).

"That's not [going to] happen. I don't see that happening. She's not interested like I said," Recto said of wife, Batangas Governor Vilma Santos.

Recto issued his statement ahead of the gathering at Club Filipino in Greenhills, San Juan City where President Benigno Aquino III will formally endorse Interior Sec. Mar Roxas to be his successor.

Santos is one of the rumored options as the running mate of Roxas after Aquino supposedly failed to convince Senator Grace Poe to run under the LP banner.

Recto said the LP leadership should also consider Senators Francis Escudero and Alan Peter Cayetano as the running mate of Roxas once the party declares him as its standard bearer.

"I'm supportive of a Mar-Poe ticket. I'm supportive of a Mar-Escudero ticket...I'm supportive of a Mar-Cayetano ticket," he told reporters. — Kathrina Charmaine Alvarez/RSJ, GMA News
