Abad welcomes Ombudsman probe findings sparing PNoy from further investigation

Budget Secretary Florencio Abad has welcomed the findings of Ombudsman field investigators recommending that he and an undersecretary undergo preliminary investigation on technical malversation and administrative charges related to P400 million worth of projects funded by the Disbursement Acceleration Program between 2011 and 2012.

The Ombudsman's investigators found no merit in further investigating President Benigno Aquino III, who was included in the complaint.

“For me that’s fine because you know the President has to be busy doing what he has to be doing as President so I would want him not to have any distraction so that’s fine,” Abad told reporters after the Senate hearing on the proposed P1.4 billion budget of the Department of Budget and Management in 2016.

Aquino was included in the complaint filed before the Office of the Ombudsman, but a source said he was removed as the allegations against him did "not amount to an impeachable offense.”

Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales has ordered a preliminary investigation on the technical malversation and administrative charges recommended against Abad and DBM Undersecretary Mario Relampagos.

Abad reiterated that the DBM would respond to the report of the FIO.

“You know this is not the first time that this issue is taken up. That’s why I said in our press statement that we welcome this investigation so that once and for all we can clarify all the other issues that may still be out there insofar as the DAP is concerned,” he said. —NB, GMA News
