Group urges public not to leave litter in cemeteries during Undas

EcoWaste Coalition urged the public not to leave litter in cemeteries during this year's Undas, a report on GMA's “Balitanghali” said Tuesday.

According to the environmental advocacy group, 834 tons of trash were hauled from Metro Manila's 21 cemeteries during last year's All Saints' Day-All Souls' Day weekend.

To raise public awareness about the problem, Fr. Robert Reyes and EcoWaste Coalition launched the "Basu Run", in which participants pick up trash while going around cemeteries.

According to data from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, the largest amounts of trash in cemeteries after last year's All Saints' Day weekend were retrieved from Manila North Cemetery, Manila South Cemetery, San Juan Public Cemetery and Manila Memorial Park.

At least 300 tons of trash were recovered from Manila North Cemetery alone. — Andrei Medina/BM, GMA News
