Presidential bet Señeres urges business leaders to stop contractualization

Presidential aspirant OFW party-list Representative Roy Señeres on Wednesday asked the country's business leaders to follow the Labor Code and stop the supposed continued contractualization of employees despite being against the law.

In a radio interview on Wednesday, Señeres said around 15 million Filipino workers in the country are "victims" of contractualization, which he described as an agreement that allows businesses to increase their income.

Contractualization is the practice of avoiding regularizing workers and depriving them of security of tenure in order to cut down on costs.

He said major shopping centers were the biggest implementers of contractualization.

Señeres said that since other presidential bets seem not to give priority to this employment issue, he was forced to join the presidential race.

"Kung mananatili akong kongresista hindi ako makakapag-issue ng executive order. I will direct Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) na ipatupad ang law," Señeres said.

He said that the laws on employment that secure job tenures of the workers have been laid out a long time ago through the Labor Code.

Señeres said the government was turning a blind eye to the alleged irregularities.

"Hindi nagmamatigas. Nagbubulag-bulagan ang ating mga politicians kasi mga beholden iyan [sa mga businessmen]," Señeres said.

He said he would talk to businessmen and urge them to follow the laws.

"Hindi ako umaasa sa donations sa mga businessmen unless sumumpa sila sa harap ng empleyado nila na ipapatupad na nila ang batas," Señeres said. —Trisha Macas/NB, GMA News
