Key will address a forum on trade at the APEC CEO Summit Tuesday afternoon at a hotel in Makati City.

He will be in the country from November 17 to 20.

The New Zealand head recognizes the importance of APEC in the world trade.

“The Asia-Pacific region is a significant driver of global economic growth with massive demand for New Zealand products—around 70 percent of our total trade now takes place with APEC economies alone,” Key said in an earlier press statement.

“It is important we continue to build on those ties and create new opportunities to further diversify and strengthen our economy for the benefit of all New Zealanders,” he added.

For 2015, APEC will focus on inclusive and sustainable growth, looking in particular at the issues faced by small and medium enterprises, as well as trade in services.

The APEC leaders’ meeting, a high profile gathering of leaders from 21 economies that include the United States, Japan, Russia, Australia and China, will be held this week at the Philippine International Convention Center.

Before going to the Philippines, Key went to Hanoi, Vietnam for trade agreements.

After the APEC meeting, he will proceed to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to attend the East Asia Summit and ASEAN-NZ Summit. —Amita Legaspi/KG, GMA News
