PILIPINAS DEBATES 2016

Poe vows to push for freedom of information in first EO

Sen. Grace Poe on Sunday said her first executive order if she wins president in the upcoming elections would push for freedom of information.

In her closing speech during the Mindanao-leg of "PiliPinas Debates" at the Capitol University in Cagayan de Oro City, Poe, who authored the FOI bill in the Senate, once again stressed the need to fight corruption in the government.

"Kailangan magkaroon ng pakikipaglaban sa korupsyon. Kapag ako po ay naging pangulo, unang executive order, magkakaroon ng freedom of information na matagal na nating ginugusto," she said.

Poe also promised to allot 30 percent of the national budget to Mindanao to help generate jobs and bring cheaper electricity in the region.

Poe, who earlier in the debate stressed the need to pour funds for the agriculture sector, also vowed to address problems in the power sector in Mindanao.

"Kailangan talaga na magkaroon ng sapat na kuryente na mura ang halaga para sa ating mga kababayan," she said.

She added that she plans to do this by rehabilitating and securing all power transmission grids to ensure enough supply of electricity.

"Sa buong Pilipinas at sa Mindanao man, ang imprortante ay isang lider na mapagkakatiwalan," she said, as she took a swipe at those who are saying that she still lacks the political experience to become a president.

"Oo nga, bago ako pero hindi na rin bago ang mga problema at marami ng matagal diyan, pero paulit-ulit pa rin ang kanilang mga lumang solusyon," she said. —KBK, GMA News
