Chiz, Bongbong share lead in Pulse Asia's latest VP survey

Senators Ferdinand "Bongbong" R. Marcos, Jr. and Francis "Chiz" Escudero shared the lead in the Pulse Asia's latest vice presidential survey.

The poll agency announced on Wednesday that 26 percent of registered voters would elect either Marcos or Escudero if the May 2016 elections coincided with the survey period from February 16 to 27, 2016.

They were followed by Camarines Sur Representative Maria Leonor "Leni" G. Robredo with 18 percent and Senator Alan Peter S. Cayetano with 13 percent.

Meanwhile, Senators Gregorio "Gringo" Honasan II and Antonio Trillanes IV scored 6 and 5 percent, respectively.

"Only 6 percent of Filipino registered voters are not inclined to elect any vice-presidential bet in May 2016," Pulse Asia said in a media release.

According to Pulse Asia, the survey commissioned by ABS-CBN, involved a multistage probability sample of 5,200 registered voters  aged 18 years and above, with biometrics. The survey has a ±1.4 percent error margin.

In terms of geographic location, Marcos and Escudero also obtained the highest first-choice voter preferences in Metro Manila (34 and 29 percent respectively), and the rest of Luzon (33 percent and 29 percent).

In the Visayas Region, the top candidates were Robredo (30 percent), and Escudero (25 percent).

Meanwhile, Cayetano topped the Mindanao survey results with 24 percent followed by Escudero with 21 percent, and Robredo with 19 percent.

Marcos welcomed the latest survey's result.

He said their camp is more focused on informing the masses about his platform of governance and in bringing his message of “national unity."

“We are happy with the way things are going for us but our focus is really on the campaign and getting more people to hear what we have to say and our plans for the country. Hopefully more people get to accept our message of national unity,” Marcos said.

Marcos is being criticized by several activist groups and personalities including President Benigno Aquino III for refusing to apologize on behalf of his family for the human rights abuses committed during martial law, under the presidency of his late father and namesake, Ferdinand Marcos Sr.

Alternative VP bet

In terms of an alternative choice, Escudero bagged the top spot with 27 percent, followed by Marcos (17 percent), Cayetano (16 percent), Robredo (12 percent), Honasan (8 percent), and Trillanes (8 percent).

Some 13 percent of survey respondents said they will not vote for any other candidate at all.
