Anderson Cooper denies calling Mar, Korina a ‘corrupt couple’

CNN journalist Anderson Cooper has denied scorning presidential candidate Mar Roxas and his wife Korina Sanchez after netizens either praised or criticized him for the meme, in which he supposedly called the couple "corrupt."

"When I heard that this corrupt couple are running for office...May God help the Philippines," read the quote attributed to Cooper.

The meme has since spread online less than a week before the elections.

In 2013, Cooper and ABS-CBN anchor Sanchez had choice words for each over the government response in areas hit by Yolanda.

Cooper was one of the foreign media professionals who went to the Philippines to cover the aftermath of the strongest typhoon ever recorded.

Sanchez criticized Cooper for his critical reporting on the government's slow response to the tragedy.

Sanchez's husband Roxas was at the forefront of the government's relief and rehabilitation efforts.

“A radio broadcaster named Korina Sanchez has taken issue with some of my reporting.  She also is not just a radio broadcaster; she also happens to be the wife of the Interior Minister (Secretary Manuel Roxas II) who is overseeing the relief effort on the ground," Cooper said on CNN.

"Miss Sanchez seems to be under the mistaken impression that I said I saw no presence of Philippine government on the ground in Tacloban. I never said that,” he added. —Jessica Bartolome/NB, GMA News
