Comelec’s Guanzon: No poll violation in KathNiel’s ballot pics

Commission on Elections Commissioner Rowena Guanzon on Monday came to the defense of celebrities Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla who are under fire for having their photos taken with the election ballots inside their polling precincts.

Guanzon said the acts did not violate the secrecy of the ballot since the actors were not the ones who took the images.

"Parang nakita ko yun sa Facebook ng pamangkin ko, wala naman shade yun. Ang voter po bawal magdala ng cellphone. Kung iba ang nag-picture sa kanya, obviously hindi sya kumuha sa sarili niya. Tingnan natin ang circumstances ha, baka kasi may iba pang facts pero sa ngayon...yun lang nangyari bago bumoto gumanun (posed for a photo). It does not violate the secrecy of the ballot," she told reporters.

She even blamed the media for putting the popular love team in such situation.

"The voter is not allowed to bring or to use gadget. Apparently media yun kasalanan mo (media) yun," Guanzon said.

Comelec spokesman James Jimenez, however, appears to have a different opinion the issue.

“Kathryn and Daniel and I need to talk #PiliPinas” Jimenez said in a tweet.

Bernardo and Padilla are supporters of Liberal Party standard bearer Manuel "Mar" Roxas II and his running mate, Camarines Sur Representative Leni Robredo. —NB, GMA News
